Running wild through Montopolis. Austin early '80s.
Hi, I’m J.R., a Texas-born creative director, designer, strategist, consultant and (yes, really) a guy who once ran a marathon at the literal top of the world. Literally.
I was born in Austin, Texas, and am now based in Flower Mound, Texas. I’ve always believed in pushing boundaries whether that’s on a design brief, a rugby pitch, or at the North Pole (yes, really, I ran the North Pole Marathon at a Russian science camp called Barneo). That same drive has shaped a career that spans over 20 years in branding, advertising, design, and creative direction. From leading inflight publications for American Airlines to developing strategic campaigns for national nonprofits like the American Heart Association, my work has always been rooted in thoughtful storytelling and smart, human-centered design.
Along the way, my work has been recognized in some of the industry’s most respected publications, including Communication Arts, Graphis, HOW, PRINT, STEP Inside Design, and the Society of Publication Designers. I’ve also had the honor of judging major award shows like the SPD Awards and the Ozzies, and I’ve been invited to speak at numerous AIGA events. Opportunities that keep me connected to the broader creative community and constantly inspired.
But creativity isn’t all I chase. I played rugby for 15 years (professionally for a few), ran the North Pole Marathon, and still get excited about restoring vintage cars and exploring new corners of the world. I live in Flower Mound with my wonderfully patient wife who keeps me grounded (and reminds me when it’s time to stop tweaking the kerning) and our two sons, who constantly remind me that the best stories are the ones we live.
My approach to creative work is a mix of grit, curiosity, and strategy built on collaboration and focused on results. Whether you need to refresh your brand, craft a compelling campaign, or bring clarity to complexity, I’m here to help you make it meaningful.
Thanks for stopping by. Let’s make something great together.
